SAN ANTONIO -- Artpace San Antonio is once again calling on art fans to grab some chalk and turn downtown Houston Street into one giant canvas.

The non-profit contemporary art center announced on Wednesday its ninth annual Chalk It Up event, which will be held Saturday, Oct. 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to "walk and chalk" their way down Houston Street -- between Main Avenue and Jefferson Street -- to take in the gallery of chalk creations and participate in a number of hands-on activities.

Artpace expects thousands of art lovers to hit the street as artists and mural teams from more than 45 area schools and organizations etch up the sidewalks.

Feature artists include Mark Aguilar, Sara Frantz, Shannon Gowen, Jen Khoshbin, Rigoberto Luna, Más Rudas, Michael Menchaca, Katie Pell, Juan Miguel Ramos, Ed Saavedra, Jeremiah Teutsch and more.

Artpace is located in downtown San Antonio at 445 North Main Ave. Free parking is available at nearby 513 North Flores St. Artpace is open to the public Wednesday through Sunday from noon to 5 p.m., including on the day of the event.
