SAN ANTONIO -- Clark High School was locked down Tuesday morning after the reported robbery of a violin at gunpoint.
A student said that someone used a gun to steal a violin worth hundreds of dollars.
The incident occurred off campus on DeZavala Road and is being investigated by San Antonio police.
The 14-year-old student told police he was walking to school Tuesday morning when he was approached by a man who asked him to hand over his violin.
Police say when the student hesitated, the suspect lifted his shirt, revealing a nickel-plated handgun sticking out of his right pocket.
The student said he gave up his instrument to the suspect, who then asked the student if he had any money.
The teen confessed that he did have cash, but the robber made it clear to the student that he did not want the money.
Once Clark High School officials learned of the theft, they ordered a lockdown of the campus. However, that was lifted after about 45 minutes.
SAPD says the suspect was captured on surveillance video carrying a violin into a nearby restaurant, and later getting into a maroon four-door vehicle.
But the suspect didn't get far.
Apparently his car overheated on the access road. When the San Antonio Fire Department arrived at the scene, firefighters spotted a violin the back of the vehicle. Having seen an earlier news story on the violin theft, firefighters put two and two together and notified police.
SAPD reported that one of the suspects in the vehicle took off on foot, and the other was arrested. Other items were found in the vehicle which police believe may have been stolen.
