SAN ANTONIO -- A 90-year-old woman using a motorized wheelchair has died after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Fredericksburg Road, police say.

The deceased has been identified as Erna Zwicke.

San Antonio police said Zwicke was struck at the intersection of Fredericksburg Road and West Agarita Avenue around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. The accident site does not have a cross walk.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the woman stopped at the scene, police said, and no charges were immediately filed.

Witnesses told KENS 5 that Zwicke had just been dropped off by a VIA bus before the crash.

"The lady flew out of the belt and everything. Her and the wheelchair went up in the air and when it came down, the lady landed and you would have thought it was like a truck had turned over when she hit the ground," said Ronnie Tyree, who witnessed the accident and dialed 911.

She died while en route to University Hospital.

Zwicke lived in the Williamsburg Apartments, a little more than two miles north on Fredericksburg from where she was struck.
