BEXAR COUNTY — A 20-year-old man who was shot in the neck during a "guys weekend" says it was not by accident.

Gage Thibodaux is recovering from a gunshot wound to the neck he suffered while shooting guns with a family friend on Sunday in rural Bexar County. Doctors told him the bullet was inches from striking his spinal chord.

On Wednesday, Thibodaux and his aunt, Alice Murray, spent the morning at the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, explaining to investigators that the 24-year-old "family acquaintance" shot Thibodaux on intentionally.

Thibodaux said the man wanted to take him shooting before heading out to Beeville, where they were going to allegedly purchase a motorcycle and stay a few days. They ended up on an empty road in east Bexar County.

"I heard a boom and I passed out for a few seconds," Thibodaux said. "And then I came back to."

Thibodaux said he didn't even know he had been shot until he saw blood on his shirt and found part of a shotgun shell sitting on his chest.

"It's crazy that someone can shoot someone and get away with it," Murray said. As of Wednesday afternoon, she was still waiting to find out whether an arrest warrant was issued for the alleged shooter.

Bexar County deputies said there were some missing pieces to the story and they are working the case to find out if it was intentional or just an accident.
