So it went down like this.
On Saturday, I tweeted out something about my husband making me some bacon for my birthday. Next thing I know, this guy named Turkey Dog Tyler emails me from Kraft. Turns out, Tyler is a Hotdogger. He picked up my tweet and figured if I liked bacon, maybe I liked hot dogs, too. And since I blogged….well…maybe, just maybe, I’d be interested in sharing that he’s driving the Wienermobile to San Antonio this week.
And ever since Saturday, I can’t stop singing the Oscar Mayer weenie song in my head.
We all have Turkey Dog Tyler to thank for that.
Since I had him on the line…and since I’ve never talked to a Hotdogger before…and since it is the 75th anniversary of that funny looking, elongated wiener vehicle, I figured I’d ask him some questions.
Turns out he’s a recent graduate of the University of Wisconsin where he studied Actuarial Science. Ummm…really?
How long have you been driving the Wienermobile?
Schnitzel Itzel and I have been on the hot dog highways of America for just over two months and we’ve logged about 6,000 miles in WEENR, a 2004 model of the Wienermobile. We will be driving until next June when the next class of Hotdoggers hits the road.

How many Wienermobiles are there?
There are six Wienermobile vehicles and 12 drivers touring the country. We each are assigned a region, so Schnitzel Itzel and I are covering the south region. In our first two months, we have visited Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Texas, Alabama and Louisiana.
Tell me about Hot Dog High.
Hot Dog High was an amazing time to bond with the other Hotdoggers, as well as learn about everything we would be doing for the following year. We spent two weeks in Madison, WI (Oscar Mayer headquarters) with nonstop training from 7a.m. to 7p.m. We get 40 hours of driver’s training with the Wienermobile, and we learn about the complete company history of Oscar Mayer. (Feel free to quiz me when we meet.)
If people come to see you at the Wienermobile, what can they expect?
Seeing the Wienermobile is a franktastic experience. First, we are taking free pictures this summer, and we have a cool application that allows visitors to send the picture to an email or find the pictures online on our Facebook site. We also have "I Saw It" stickers and 75th Anniversary stickers. Last, but definitely not least, we’ve got Wiener Whistles. Oscar Mayer has been handing these out for almost 60 years. Parents can add to their Wiener Whistle collections, and kids can get their very first piece of Wienermobilia!
This is it!
