AUSTIN -- The Ragweed Allergy season has started three weeks early in Central Texas and is only expected to get worse over the next few weeks.
“I'm amazed at how much pollen we've had this year. In 20 years I've never seen this much pollen this early in the season,” said Bill Howland, M.D. with the Allergy and Asthma Center of Austin.
Howland said this year’s crop of giant ragweed plants survived the drought and are putting out of enough pollen to make up for it.
“I think they're stronger plants so they're going to let out a lot of pollen this year to try to catch up for what happened in the last two years of drought,” said Howland.
The allergy doctor said that the waiting room at his clinic has been filled with ragweed sufferers already.
