New research shows a home pregnancy test may help detect some types of cancer in men.

The American Cancer Society says pregnancy tests can help keep men know when they need medical attention by detecting a certain hormone.

The hormone is produced by cells of a woman's placenta during pregnancy. But it's also produced by some, though not all, testicular cancers.

The story first came to light after a teenage boy took a home pregnancy test as a joke and received a positive result. He wound up being diagnosed with testicular cancer.
