SAN ANTONIO -- A witness says the driver was possibly driving 60 to 70 mph or faster when he struck and killed a bicyclist on West Avenue Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as 55-year-old Devan Coulter Smith.
San Antonio police said the truck came barreling down the street as the bicyclist was attempting to make a turn at West Avenue and Silver Sands at around 3:30 p.m.
"I saw the whole thing where he just hit him, then he hit the side where the pole is bent," Diamond DeLeon said. "The guy flew up into the air, and his bicycle flew."
Police said the 17-year-old driver was speeding and weaving in and out of traffic leading up to the crash.
He was taken into custody and then released. Police said he may be charged with manslaughter, pending further investigation.
Deleon said the driver got out of his vehicle and yelled at the cyclist after the wreck.
