SAN ANTONIO - A home on the 2100 block of West Travis Street is a total loss after a fire broke out Monday afternoon.
“I just heard a guy yelling fire…and then I looked up and I saw the smoke so I ran and got my phone and I called 911, ” neighbor, Gina Hall said.
By the time firefighters arrived the two-story home was fully engulfed.
Hall says the heat of the fire could be felt across the street at her home.
“These older homes are all wood so when they get going like this one was it’s just a huge amount of fire,” the San Antonio Fire Department Battalion Chief Wesley West said.
He said firefighters evacuated the neighbors next door in case the fire spread.
Luckily, no one was inside the burning home. A neighbor who house sits for the homeowner said he was in Houston with his family and had taken his pets with him.
She said he had been living in the home for about seven years and was remolding it. She said when she broke the news he was devastated.
Bexar County appraised the home at about $100,000.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
