Fire breaks out at east-side apartments, forces evacuation

SAN ANTONIO -- A fire broke out at an east-side apartment complex early Wednesday morning, and about 25 residents were evacuated.

The San Antonio Fire Department said the blaze started around 4:30 a.m. at an apartment complex in the 100 block of Bethlehem.

Firefighters said they put the fire out quickly and reportedly spent about an hour looking for hot spots.

The Red Cross was also helping displaced residents at the scene.

There was no word on exactly how many residents were displaced. However, about five children were among those evacuated.
