Deadly chase ends in Castroville, driver charged with murder

One person killed in high-speed chase

CASTROVILLE, Texas -- A deadly chase ended in Castroville early Friday morning, after deputies chased a suspect through two counties.

The driver survived the crash, but the passenger did not. The driver has been charged with murder.

The Bexar County Sheriff's Office said the incident started as a traffic stop. Deputies reportedly spotted the red pickup truck involved in the chase near Loop 1604 and Culebra Road.

When deputies tried to pull over the driver of the truck, the truck reportedly sped off.

BCSO said speeds reached higher than 90 mph during the chase.

They traveled to Highway 90 in Medina County, and BCSO said the truck lost control while trying to turn into a residential area.

The driver slammed his truck into a tree, and the vehicle broke in half.

BCSO said the driver was ejected, arrested at the scene and was then taken to an area hospital for treatment. Deputies said he suffered broken bones.

Deputies said the driver had a warrant out for his arrest, but BCSO is still investigating whether that was the reason the driver initiated the chase.

Neither the driver nor deceased passenger have been identified.
