Valero robbery & shooting suspects arrested

SAN ANTONIO -- The San Antonio Police Department said two men were arrested Wednesday in connection with an armed robbery on Southcross Boulevard.

As KENS 5 reported, police asked for the public's help to identify suspects in an aggravated robbery at a Valero Corner Store Monday.

After seeing the surveillance video police released, SAPD said someone claimed to recognize one of the suspects.

Police said Joseph Tovar, 19, was arrested on West Dickson Avenue around 12:30 p.m. and charged in connection with the robbery. Police also said they believe he shot a store clerk.

SAPD said officers followed another tip and made a second arrest on South Flores Street around 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Silas Keys, 21, was also arrested in connection with the robbery.

Police said both are facing aggravated robbery charges.

At last check, police said the store clerk shot during the robbery was in serious condition at a local hospital.

The suspects reportedly told police they needed money, and that could be a reason behind the robbery.
