Suspects indicted in death of a 7-year-old

SAN ANTONIO -- The Bexar County District Attorney's office said a federal grand jury indicted Frank Gomez, 28, and Manuel Watson, 22, in the capital murder of 7-year-old Iris Rodriguez.

The DA's office said they were also indicted for two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

As KENS 5 reported, the defendants were leaving Cuellar Park around 10 p.m. on June 1, when they saw the victim, her mother and her mother's boyfriend.

According to a statement from the DA's office, witnesses said gunfire erupted. Iris suffered a gunshot wound to her head and died from her injuries. Her mother was also shot in the arm.

A third suspect in this case, Jonathan Campos, committed suicide in the Bexar County Jail in July.

Peter Gonzalez is a fourth suspect in this case, but has not been indicted since he was arrested.

Capital murder is punishable by life in prison without the possibility of death or parole, according to the DA's office.
