Floresville football fans wear white to honor Sutherland Springs

Floresville football game brings grieving community together

A game on the gridiron Friday night was a good way for Sutherland Springs, and nearby residents of Floresville, to come together away from the awful reality of the senseless tragedy.

Fans of the Floresville Tigers wore white at the game to symbolize hope, love and peace.

Floresville Band mom Rebecca Upchurch knew some of the 26 victims who were killed. She said Friday's game was different.

"It is a celebration for the people we lost," she said. "No matter how much we are playing, no matter how much fun we are having, the victims that we knew that are gone, are right there. They are here with us tonight, because that is the type of people they were."

Before the game kicked off, there was a prayer. Floresville High School Principal Michael Schroller said football brings everyone together.

"They will be competing two schools one heart for Sutherland Springs," he said. "They will be playing with unity, compassion and heart."
