Inmate escapes from Bexar Co. jail, later captured

SAN ANTONIO - The Bexar County Sheriff's Office said a female inmate escaped from BCSO's Adult Detention Center Thursday morning, but was later apprehended.

Rosemary Hernandez, 39, was booked into the Bexar County jail Wednesday evening after she was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

BCSO said, during the booking process, Hernandez escaped through several corridors, entered a restricted area and was able to escape the facility through an exterior door.

Hernandez was still wearing her street clothes when she escaped around 8:15 a.m. Thursday, and BCSO said "escape protocols were immediately implemented." She was apprehended around 10 a.m. and was at large for about one hour and 40 mins.

BCSO said there were no injuries or damage involved, and additional charges will be filed against Hernandez related to the escape.
