UPDATE: I-37 back open in Three Rivers, suspect escapes through tunnel

According to KENS 5 sister station KIII, the northbound and southbound lanes of I-37 have reopened following a hostage situation at a home near the highway.

The Live Oak Sheriff's Office says that deputies entered the home and found no suspect and no hostages, but did find a tunnel under the home that the suspect may have used to escape.

Prior to the entry, the Texas Department of Public Safety said that a man had barricaded himself inside a home at the Three Rivers exit of I-37. The suspect reportedly has two hostages inside the home with him and had fired shots at sheriff's deputies.

Earlier, deputies from the Live Oak Sheriff's Office shut down traffic on both sides as well as frontage roads to prevent possible injuries to drivers.
