SAN ANTONIO - The person who gunned down an east-side man at home is still on the streets and police need your help to find him.
A well-loved 47-year-old Lonnie Franklin was a family hero who dozens of members of the community joined together to remember on Saturday at a balloon release ceremony.
About a week ago, the father of four, who was a chef at Fort Sam and a football coach, was shot and killed in his doorway on the 4700 block of Belinda Lee after stepping outside to start his car.
Police are still investigating who's behind the murder.
"His impact on the society, on this generation, was strong," said Andre Cooper, Franklin's close friend. "He was telling them you can change, you don't have to choose that life."
As his family and friends wait for answers as to who killed Franklin, there's just one thing they said can give them closure.
"I just want justice for my family," said Coray Johnson, Franklin's niece. "Just so our hearts can smile. We can breathe a little bit better."
Police are asking anyone with information to call homicide detectives at 210-207-7635. You can also report information anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 224-STOP.
