Bexar Co. Juvenile Detention officer charged with sexually assaulting teen inmate

SAN ANTONIO - A Bexar County Juvenile Detention officer has been arrested and charged with sexual assault of a child.

The employee was allegedly having a relationship with a 15-year-old girl.

Officials said 23-year-old Jasquell Jamal Spell confessed to the crime. An arrest warrant said Spell drummed up this inappropriate relationship by writing the victim letters.

Investigators said on one occasion, she was removed from her living quarters and forced into unlawful sexual acts. The warrant said on May 26, Spell was caught on surveillance video carrying out the same crime.

When he was contacted by a Texas Juvenile Investigator over the phone, Spell voluntarily confessed the crime.

He faces a charge of sexual assault of a child and the Bexar County Sheriff's Office is trying to determine if there are more victims.

Spell remains in jail on a $75,000 bond.
