SAN ANTONIO -- A 28-year-old male is behind bars after leading police on a chase that lasted more than 15 minutes on the city's west-side Friday night.
Authorities observed a white Oldsmobile Cutlass run a stoplight at Highway 90 and General McMullen. The car continue swerving in and out of lanes, tipping police off to the possibility the driver was intoxicated.
When police attempted to stop the driver, he refused and instead opted to lead police on a chase in which speeds, authorities said, reached up to 90 miles per hour.
One of SAPD's Blue Eagle helicopters aided in the search for the driver, which prompted officers on the ground to stop chasing the suspect.
The suspect ditched the vehicle at N. San Gabriel and took off on foot, but he was later spotted by the Blue Eagle helicopter.
Officers arrested the suspect in the 200 block of N. San Ignacio. Police said he could faces driving while intoxicate charges, felony and evading, as well as multiple traffic violations.
Police said two police officers crashed their patrol cars into one another during the pursuit at the intersection of Maiden Lane and Culebra. However, no injuries were reported in the accident.
