HOUSTON -- Two Houston police officers were charged with using their badges to protect a cocaine smuggling ring.

Michael Miceli and Emerson Canizales were arrested Sunday  at the start of their shifts at the Houston Police Department.

The Department of Justice says the officers were paid $1,000 to protect the drugs.

If convicted, each faces anywhere from ten years to life in prison, as well as a possible $10 million fine.
