SAN ANTONIO -- Murder is easily the most alarming crime that could be committed, yet already the City of San Antonio is on pace to see more homicides than the last two years.
“We’re seven (murders) ahead of pace right now,” said San Antonio Police Chief William McManus.
For all of 2011 the city saw 89 homicides and 79 the year before in 2010. Already the city has seen 64 murders and with a third of the year to go, San Antonio is on pace to surpass last year’s murder rate by about 12 percent.
This year murders have been spread throughout the city and that’s concerning police.
“This year’s pattern is very, very frustrating because there’s not a lot you can do to predict, and if you can’t predict it’s difficult to prevent,” said McManus.
And not only do the murder locations vary, but so do the motives.

“One of the things we brainstormed on is trying to figure out how we get the message out to the public on how to react to an issue and incident in a violent way as opposed to taking a deep breath, counting to 10 and walking away,” said McManus.
McManus said he recently recorded a public service announcement aimed in helping people realize violence isn’t the solution. He said the PSA should hit airwaves soon.
