SAN ANTONIO -- Mary Tyler wanted to have more room in her home and she wanted it before Christmas last year. Tyler was expecting family from out of town and wanted to make sure she had enough room for them. She contracted Donnie Butler Construction to add two rooms to her home and it was supposed to be done in time for the holidays.
Tyler says at first Butler's men hit it pretty hard. They got the shell up and tied into her roof...but once most of the money was paid to Butler, the work slowed. Then Christmas came and went and Tyler's family ended up sleeping on the floor because the rooms weren't finished.
Then January came, with it's rain. One morning Tyler awoke to water pouring into her home through the roof. She called Butler and says he basically didn't respond. Fortunately Tyler had insurance, which covered the roughly $35,000 in damages.
Tyler was out of her home for more than 3 weeks while repairs were made. All that time she says she called Butler but he never answered or returned a call. After moving back into her home, Tyler called Eyewitness Wants To Know.
We tracked Butler to his home on Windsor Oaks, but he wasn't home. A neighbor said he knew Butler well and said he would give him a message to call us. Butler called about an hour later and took complete responsibility for the problems.
He said he ran into resource problems, but promised the addition would be completed by the end of April. We will check back in with Tyler to see if Donnie Butler holds true to his word.
