When it comes to your BFF, you share pretty much everything from clothes and shoes to make-up and jewelry.

Some schools are warning parents about something kids are sharing that could have serious consequences: contact lenses.

It's the latest trend in teen fashions: non-prescription colored contact lenses to match your outfit.

Teachers say they've noticed more teens wearing them.

So last week, some school districts began sending out email alerts to parents, warning them that some kids could be swapping lenses.

If they're sharing the lens itself there's a risk of bacterial infection which can irritate the surface of the eye and cause decrease in vision

Optometrists says wearing someone else's contacts can be harmful to your eyes. There is a risk of bacterial infection which can irritate the surface of the eye.

They warn that  even if teens are buying their own non-prescription lenses, they need to see an eye doctor first, to make sure the fit is correct for the individual's eyes.

That was a law that was changed about five or six years ago, realizing that people were wearing these lenses and it was causing some infections and a decrease in vision in patients.

Regardless, there are some stores that continue to sell the contacts even without a proper perscription.
