This week we had several people call and email about not being paid by their employer. It’s federal labor law that if you go to work for a company, no matter how large or small, they have to pay you for your services. In one case, a woman answered an ad on the website craigslist.com to work from home as an appointment setter. It doesn’t matter if you commute to work or work from home, a job is a job. There are a number of websites that can help you determine your rights as a worker and we’ve provided links to them. One is the Texas Workforce Commission. It’s a state agency that can help insure workers are paid for the work they do. They also provide job opportunities, training and educational opportunities for workers looking to change fields or start new careers. There is also a link to the U.S. Labor Department. All workers are covered under federal labor laws. The rules and regulations depend on which field you work. The third link is to the Texas Attorney General's Office.
All three of these governmental agencies provide information on labor laws and provide guidance on filing complaints or initiating investigations into workplace violations.
