Siclovia route highlights city's south-side history

New route announced for Siclovia

SAN ANTONIO - A new route was announced for Siclovia on Friday. This year the course embraces the south side of the city.

City council member Rebecca Viagran helped reveal the route at Mission Concepcion.

Viagran described past scenes at Siclovia.

"It's great energy here," she said. "It's crowded full of people, bikes and families."

Streets along the World Heritage Trail will be closed on March 26. People can walk, run, and skateboard without having to worry about cars.

YMCA of Greater San Antonio CEO Sandy Morander says that it's all about getting out and enjoying the view.

"Get to know your neighbors in a different way and experience the city in a different way than when you're driving your car," she said.

Siclovia starts at HEB on South Flores Street. It ends at Mission Concepcion for a very distinct reason: The mid-1700's structure is a world heritage site.

"We have treasures here in San Antonio," Viagran said. "We will do all that we can to perserve them and highlight them as well."
