SAN ANTONIO - Even with eight children, Eleanor Desayano still found room in her budget to help other children on Giving Tuesday, children she’s never met.
“I had a lot of help,” she said. “It’s my turn to help.”
On Giving Tuesday, Desayano donated to Toys for Tots and thanked the Marines for serving our country and spending the day on the front lines of Toys R Us, encouraging others to give.
“[I’ve] been here since 8:30 a.m.,” Lance Corporal Eli Gonzales said. “We take unwrapped gifts and donations. It’s amazing.”
Other Marines throughout the country encouraged shoppers to donate to Toys for Tots. This is the 13th consecutive year that Toys R Us and the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation teamed up to bring joy to less fortunate children.
“I love being productive and charitable at the same time,” Gonzales said.
Also part of Giving Tuesday, a dozen local businesses helped create a winter wonderland experience for The Children’s Shelter on West Woodlawn. More than 40 children who live at the emergency shelter were treated to toys, hot chocolate, and snacks while volunteers decorated Christmas trees.
