SAN ANTONIO -- Some local electricians “sparked” change on Wednesday by raising money to help seniors and delivering the meals in their company trucks.
Among those that were helped was Enrique Menchaca, a homebound man who can’t drive anywhere to put food on the table. So when an electrician showed up at his door on Wednesday, it wasn’t for repairs.
“It’s greatly appreciated, those of us who need it,” Menchaca said. “And I hope to not need it soon.”
On Wednesday morning, Mr. Sparky traded in their wires and tools, loading their trucks with meals for seniors.
“Me and the staff shut down our office to take care of folks,” said George, “Mr. Sparky,” himself. “It tugs at our hearts. We enjoy these kinds of things.”
After a quick training session at the Meals on Wheels headquarters in northwest San Antonio. They hit the road in their bright red vans to spark happiness for the people who already depend on Meals on Wheels every day to eat.
Mr. Sparks also raised more than $5,000 over its five week Spark Change campaign. Electricians have been waiving their service fees to their customers and asking them to donate to Meals on Wheels instead, which helped pay for more than 1,000 meals.
