San Antonio celebrates 37th Annual Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner

37th Annual Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner

San Antonio city leaders and volunteers celebrated Thanksgiving in a big way, feeding more than 25,000 hungry San Antonians.

The Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner is, according to the city, the biggest event of its kind in the country.

A giant turkey mans the door at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, just in case you forgot what day it was.

“Being able to be here with people you don’t know, you kind of become like a family together,” one patron said.

Supporting that family is a small army of more than 4,000 volunteers.

Between the live mariachi music and the tables full of turkey, stuffing, and pumpkin pie, city leaders enjoyed the opportunity to relax and give back.

“I just love greeting people. And people being kind of shocked like, ‘You’re handing me a plate?! You’re the mayor!’ That’s kind of cool,” San Antonio Mayor Ivy Taylor said.
