SAN ANTONIO - Fit Pass, the city-wide fitness program, is back for the fifth year in a row.
The San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department officially kicked off the program at Pearsall Park with a 5k race over the weekend. Lyn Kinton, recreation manager with the department, says about that about 2400 people registered for the race.
"This morning we had people who've never done a 5k before come out. They're starting, they're working with their families. We had kids, strollers, all kinds of ages. We had older adults that were out here running," Kinton said.
The kick-off event also had workout classes, bouncy houses for kids, and health screenings. The Fit Pass program runs all summer long and is designed to help people lead healthier lives. People can earn points by attending fitness events and prizes are given out in the end.
Joel Fox who placed 10th place in the race, came to the event with his family. He said his wife got him started in the program.
"I've been going to the fitness in the park classes for a year and a half now, so it got me to come here last year and again this year. I've really enjoyed it," Fox said.
