Comal Co. corrections officer hit, killed by suspected drunk driver

COMAL COUNTY, Texas - Comal County Corrections Officer Cynthia Young was killed when a suspected drunk driver hit her on Fourth of July, the sheriff's office said.

The Comal County Sheriff's Office said Young was walking back to the car with her family after watching fireworks in Marble Falls when the crash happened.

An alleged drunk driver reportedly ran through a stop sign and struck her. She was transported to an area hospital, but later died of her injuries.

The sheriff's office said she began her career as a member of the nursing staff and transitioned to being a corrections officer in 2012.

The Comal County Sheriff's Office released the following statement on Facebook:

"Cynthia always had a smile and was a valuable member of the sheriff’s office. She was loved by many. We shall miss her a lot. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family during this time of great sorrow."
