Can with a cause: The amazing story behind 'Legacy Lager'

Dog Tag Brewing honors fallen soldiers. (August 31, 2016)

Legacy Lager is made by Dog Tag Brewing and brewed by Pabst Blue Ribbon, and it's more than just a drink.

All of the proceeds from the sale of Legacy Lager go to families of fallen heroes who then distribute the money to a charity of their choice.

For the Coumas family they would ask for nothing more than to go back and say goodbye to their son Kyle one more time. His father, Greg Coumas said Kyle was killed October 21, 2009 by an IED in Afghanistan.

"You know every parent worries they are never going to see their kid again when they're sending them off to war, I just didn't think it would happen," Greg said.

The late 22-year-old was a proud infantry man with a “smirky” smile and pretty green eyes – one of many things Greg misses about his only child.

"I've always wanted to be a grandparent and I never will be. I think about him all the time," said Greg.

Greg showed off photos of Kyle laying on the ground, he called him a sleeping angel and said now his son will be remembered with a very unique legacy.

Dog Tag Beer has chosen Kyle to be one of many Fallen Warriors on the side of the Legacy Lager cans, sharing his story with everyone who buys it. The Coumas family can’t wait to try one.

"I'm going to drink it like Kyle would; I'm going to pop one open and slug it down," said Greg, "He was like a duck or something. He would just tilt it back."

Greg said he is going to enjoy that first brew with Kyle at his gravesite. The Coumas family is from the Lockwood area and Kyle’s cans will be sold at Pabst distribution locations starting tomorrow.

All of the proceeds from Kyle's specialized cans will go to the Local Heroes Foundation out of Tracy.
