SAN ANTONIO -- Is SXSW getting too big for Austin? That's the lingering question after this year's music, film and interactive festival wrapped up with more than a few problems. Now city leaders in San Antonio are hoping to bring the popular venue to the Alamo City.
The biggest issue in the Capitol city seemed to be lack of hotel space, which one of the main arguments city leaders in San Antonio plan to make to those in charge of SXSW.
The 10-day music, film, and interactive conference and festival attracts international attention and brings in about 200,000 people every single year.
Councilman John Clamp says the Alamo City has more than enough hotel rooms to host the event. He says Fiesta is a prime example of how well the city handle's crowd control.
"When you bring 200,000 people downtown over, you know, a 10-day period that is heads and beds, our hotels, restaurants, our vendors, our retail shops. Every business is impacted by those people," says Clamp.
SXSW is also great for local growth.
Last year alone the festival brought in more than $113 million to the Austin economy.
San Antonio city leaders are meeting next week to talk about approaching organizers of the event.
