HOUSTON (AP) — Department store chain Stage Stores Inc. said Thursday that June revenue at stores open at least a year rose 3.3 percent, beating Wall Street's expectations.
Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters forecast a 2.7 percent rise in the figure for the five weeks ending June 30.
Revenue at stores open at least a year is a key gauge of a retailer's health because it excludes results from stores recently opened or closed.
Total sales for the period rose 5.8 percent to $141 million.
Makeup and shoes were some of the top sellers, the company said.
For the fiscal year to date, revenue at stores open at least one year rose 3.8 percent while total sales rose nearly 7 percent to $637 million.
