EDINBURG, Texas -- Border Patrol agents rescued 52 immigrants from a stash house Wednesday. Five additional immigrants were also identified as smugglers and arrested, Border Patrol said in a media release.
Border Patrol and officers from the Edinburg Police Department, the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office and the Hidalgo County Constables Office Pct. 4 conducted a joint investigation that led them to a residence in Edinburg.
After seeing "suspicious activity" at the location, Border Patrol said law enforcement officials obtained consent to search the residence.
The immigrants apprehended were reportedly from Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.
Border Patrol said all subjects were transported to the Weslaco Border Patrol Station and processed.
Border Patrol also said the five smugglers were referred to the local prosecutions office.
