Austin musician robbed, shot after leaving show in East Austin

AUSTIN - After playing a show at East Austin's Hotel Vegas an Austin musician was robbed and shot, according to KVUE's news partners at the Austin American-Statesman.

The Statesman reports that Michael Sanders, lead guitarist and singer for Lowin, left the show at around 1:30 a.m. Saturday to walk to his home nearby when three men pushed him against a parked car. After giving them his cash, cards and phone, they started to walk away. One of the men later turned around and shot him.

One of his neighbors let him into their home to call 911 before the Statesman said Austin-Travis County EMS took him to a hospital.

Sanders told the Statesman that he was planning on playing a week's worth of shows for South by Southwest festival, but now will be sitting them out in order to recover from his injuries.
