It's not quite Fiesta season, but with Luminaria arriving this Saturday, it certainly feels like it.
Luminaria is the city's preeminent celebration of the arts, and downtown San Antonio will be full of live music, films and local artists. It's so cool, it's even got it's own iPhone app. (Click here to download it.)
The fun starts Saturday at 6 p.m. and goes until midnight.
My recommendation: scan the festival's hefty schedule (www.luminariasa.org/schedule), get there early and be flexible. A record 185,000 people attended Luminaria in 2009, officials say. That record could be broken this year.
One music act I'm especially looking forward to seeing: The Krayolas, who drew national attention last year for their unique brand of completely uncategorizable music. (Calling them Tejano garage band doesn't really do the Krayolas justice.) They'll be on Stage 4 at 9:45 p.m. on Saturday.
One final note: parking isn't free, so plan ahead.
Our Kens5.com community calendar is a great source for local events. Just a sampling of the cool stuff you can find on there for this weekend:
- Sneaker Palooza at the Witte (featuring a live performance by Biz Markie, and a special guest appearance by Sam Hurd)
(Of course, you can also post your own event!)
