SAN ANTONIO — Mayor Julian Castro says he is confident his Pre-K 4 SA will pass after late results show the scales have tipped in favor of the initiative.
Voters were split 50-50 as results first started trickling in on Tuesday evening. Later in the night, with 80 percent of pricincts accounted for, the initiative was passing with 53 percent of the votes.
Surrounded by family and friends, Castro said "we're glad because Pre-K 4 SA looks like it's going to win tonight."
Castro spoke from a watch party he shared with his brother, Texas state Rep. Joaquin Castro, who tonight won the 20th congressional district with a whopping 64 percent of the votes.
The Pre-K 4 SA Initiative proposes a 1/8-cent sales tax and other state and federal funds to provide full-day Pre-K education to eligible 4-year-olds in San Antonio.
