SAN ANTONIO -- The oldest Catholic university in Texas was just ranked fifth in the West for being a cost-effective school, and it's located right in the heart of San Antonio's west side.
St. Mary's University was ranked by the U.S. News Media Group in it's 2014 edition of Best Colleges guide. The category was “Great Schools at Great Prices”
The recent list was made by calculating the school's academic performance with it's 2012-13 tuition costs for a student receiving an 'average level of need-based financial aid'.
“The higher the quality of the program and the lower the cost, the better the deal," according to the U.S. News Media Group.
“Our strategic plan calls on us to become one of the finest private universities in the region – a gateway for our graduates to professional lives as ethical leaders in Texas, the nation and the world,” St. Mary's University President Thomas Mengler said in a press release issued by the school. “It is gratifying to see that St. Mary’s listed in the top five in the West for high quality and high value.”
St. Mary’s University has been nationally recognized several times for its 'commitment to service and community engagement'.
The Marianist institution was founded by the Society of Mary in 1852. Once located downtown on College Street, near the San Antonio River, the university is now located at One Camino Santa Maria.
