Emotions ran high last week when an atheist group asked UTSA students to trade in their Bibles for pornographic magazines.

On Monday afternoon, the group set up a table on campus for their "Smut for Smut" trade offer. The group featured a sign at their table that read, "Trade in Holy Text 4 Porn."

Nearby, some students gathered in protest by reading their Bibles and praying.

After the event, the atheist group posted on their Twitter page, "Too often are we ignored this seems to get people to actually talk to us instead of ignore us."

The atheist group tells KENS 5 that it will donate all of its Bibles to local libraries.

I find it funny, athiest try everything they can to start a war. Majority of comments here are so childish and ignorant, you might as well go back to your mothers womb and stay there.

As an Atheist, I don't have a problem with trying to make/help people think for themselves regarding the religious dogma that's been thrust down their throats for so long that they can't question it with open eyes. I do have a problem with this group. No Atheist that I know would condone this behavior because we believe that given the right tools and time many people lose their religion and merely go to church to fit the status quo. If that makes them comfortable, then fine let them be. I do on occasion respond to so-called Christians who have no problem attacking my for my belief that there is no god. But these people don't know me, and for many of the people that I work with this information would be quite a shock. But it shouldn't be as I am more helpful when people need it than most of the Christians that I work with. So I smile my little smile, and go on with life because you can't win an argument with someone who has been brainwashed harder than Mormon's.

It's amazing how it's always the bible carrying Christians that get completely defensive every time anyone questions their views. Aren't they suppose to practice tolerance and love? They need to turn the looking glass internally and see just how corrupt and juvenile the entire religious system is. Just because YOU can't function without the absurd belief of a higher power dictating your every move doesn't mean we all have to feel that way. I for one am completely comfortable in my mortality and don't feel the need to explain it away with fanciful beings..

Why do religious people get so offended when their beliefs are attacked but ignore and try and hide things like priests raping children. I think they have some issues in which problems to worry about.

I was there yesterday, but I preferred not to get into the discussion with many people outside the J.P.L. because I know that my faith in the Lord is far beyond their logic, and that they cannot be persuaded to Grace by any terms that they can fathom, since their lives have no apparent meaning(according to an Atheist Agenda leader who was speaking). I find this incredible, since most Atheists I've met claim to be great free thinkers, but I'll continue to my point. I think that most people gathered there to oppose this because what the Atheist Agenda was doing was generally offensive, whether you lean towards Christ or not. The group was not trying further Atheism an any way, and many in the group said they were there simply for shockvalue. The question my friends and I were asking, as well as may others, was "why?". Surely an organization that claims to be driven by such great logic can come up with better ways to further their agenda other than childish antics and shock value.

If Christians think their bible is so good for humanity, why is it they don't teach the story of Lott in Sunday School? Does anyone really think it is ok to murder children because they called you "baldy"? The god/s of Abraham can only be defined as dictators, you cant vote these characters out of office and when you defy them they get really nasty, much like an abusive spouse. We can no more fear a god/God, than we fear Mickey Mouse. But the fans of invisible beings do believe this and we merely are challenging believers to examine what they claim. Humanity has managed fine without belief in Isis and Thor and I don't think humanity needs to worship a cosmic camera in the sky who beats the tar out of you for the slightest transgression. If one can accept that Allah didn't exist as a claim 1 billion years ago, what makes anyone think Jesus will be remembered 1 billion years from now? What is so frightening to humans to say, "This is all there is"?

It IS meant to be offensive, but not out of ignorant hate. Christians have their own version "love the sinner, not the sin". The atheist would say, "Love the claimant, not the claim". We rightfully supported the Danish Cartoonist in his blasphemous depiction of Muhammad with a bomb in his turban. These atheists are merely being "in your face" to say, "WAKE UP, HAVE YOU ACTUALLY READ THE BOOK?" From beginning to end the bible is full of murder, infanticide, genocide and incest. I don't think any religion past or present deserves a pedestal just because it is currently popular. "Question with boldness even the existence of a god, for if there be one, surely he would pay more homage to reason than to that of blindfolded fear" Thomas Jefferson

Yes, most intelligent people can understand that much of the out dated mythology found in the bible is complete and utter nonsense. BUT what is the point of this? I mean in my opinion the fasted way to Atheism is to read the bible. I just think this is counter productive

Umm, no . Athiesm = a disbelief in the existence of deity. It is NOT a religion. Your statement contradicts itself. " an atheist is a religion -faith that there is no god - so but deep down inside we all know that there is a GOD a CREATOR". Maybe you, deep down inside, as you say, believe that there is a "god" , but athiests do NOT, "deep down inside", believe that a god exists because athiesm, as I previously stated, is a disbelief in ANY existence of a deity and in turn does not support any kind of religion. Science provides factual explanation for things. Religion is all glorified hearsay.

The strength of religion is the repression of knowledge. All structures of religion have collapsed!

it's so sad to see this happening. it's not a "bring awareness to what we believe" event, rather than a blatant attack and insult to those who believe in God or a higher power. really, what was the point of this?
