SAN ANTONIO -- A man suspected of shoplifting a Target store was hospitalized late Saturday night after police say he was struck by a truck while running away from the scene.

Police said a shoplifting suspect was seen running from the Target store at Loop 410 and Fredericksburg around 9 p.m. Saturday.

He then dashed across the Loop 410 access road and into the main lanes of the interstate, where police said he was hit by a passing truck.

Covered in blood and unresponsive, the victim was taken to a University Hospital.

As of Sunday night, the victim was still in critical condition.

Police in Balcones Heights and San Antonio both responded to the shoplifting report and the subsequent accident.
