A former Seguin police officer is charged with sexually soliciting a minor with text messages, then deleting them in an attempt to cover it up.
Former police officer Fidel Carlos Castillo IV is out on bond awaiting a Sept. 28 court date.
He was indicited on two counts last Friday by the Guadalupe County grand jury on allegations of sexually soliciting a girl under the age of 17 with text messages and with tampering with evidence.
After allegedly deleting the sexually charged text messages, he then is accused of writing to the minor back on June 20. Both of these are third-degree felonies punishable by two to 10 years in a state prison.
The district attorney's office tells KENS 5 that the 15-year police veteran was placed on administrative leave June 23. He then resiged from the police force July 5.
District Attorney Heather Hollub issued this comment Friday about Castillo:
"It's always sad when we have to file charges against an officer."
The Seguin Police Departmet had no comment on the case.
