Just last week a San Antonio man employed as a New Braunfels high school coach confessed to a crime and agreed to turn himself in. But, when the agreed upon day came and went, it was clear that Leon Eugene Sneed could be long gone.
Sneed, a 44-year-old coach at New Braunfels Christian Academy, confessed to authorities on September 12, stating that he had engaged in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old female student, a second degree felony. He admitted it had happened at least five or six times.
It was the school that first brought the alleged offense to the attention of authorities. The New Braunfels Police Department launched an investigation into the matter.
They said Sneed agreed to turn himself in on Friday, September 14. But that never happened. Now authorities are looking for him.
The New Braunfels Christian Academy made the following statement via email:
New Braunfels Christian Academy administration was recently notified of allegations of an improper relationship between an employee and a high school student. The authorities were immediately notified and after reviewing details, the employee was immediately removed from their position. Action was also taken to ensure that the employee would have no further access to students or any school property. We continue to fully cooperate with authorities through their investigation. “Our students and families continue to be our primary focus. Their safety and well-being is our greatest priority,” according to Eric Pipkin, Head of School. “We are praying for the victim and family. Our students are being supported with counseling and prayer.”
New Braunfels authorities said Sneed, a resident of San Antonio, is associated with various youth-related basketball organizations both in New Braunfels and in the San Antonio area.
A second-degree felony indictment could result in a sentence of two to 20 years in prison if convicted.
