HOUSTON—An SUV barreled through a window into a Houston post office Wednesday, injuring five people inside.
It happened in the 3000 block of W. Fuqua near Almeda around 9:30 a.m.
Tire tracks could be seen heading from the parking lot, across the sidewalk, through the lawn and into the building. It appeared the car popped over the curb, smashed through a group of newspaper dispensers and crashed through a large glass window to the right of the front entrance.
"We was standing in line, and we just heard a big ‘BOOSH!’ And we all just tried to get to where we could get to," witness Randy Johnson said.
Two office workers and three customers were hurt.
Two of them – a post office worker and a customer – were taken to Ben Taub for treatment. The other three were treated at the scene.
Officials said all of the injuries were non-life-threatening.
When a tow truck pulled the SUV out of the building, damage could be seen along its side and on the front end. The driver of the SUV, a 64-year-old woman, was not injured.
Police questioned her at the scene, but it was not clear if she would face any charges or fines. The cause of the accident was under investigation.
Officials said the post office would remain open to the public Wednesday. A mobile unit was brought out to service customers.
