A San Antonio police officer has been indefinitely suspended.

Lieutenant Lee Rakun was suspended following allegations that he used racial slurs and threatened, without authority, to fire an off-duty constable while the constable was working security at a bar near Alamo Heights.

The 19-year veteran officer has reportedly been suspended 15 times before.

SAPD Chief William McManus issued the following statement:

“Complaints against SAPD officers which allege serious violations of Department Rules and Regulations are investigated by the Internal Affairs Unit. The results of these investigations are reviewed by independent boards of civilians and sworn officers as provided in our collective bargaining agreement.  I receive recommendations from those boards to aid in determining proper disciplinary action in cases where charges against an officer are sustained.  It would be inappropriate for me to comment on the specific facts of this case while the officer’s case remains under appeal.”
