SAN ANTONIO -- Police say an officer suffered minor burns after pulling a suspected drunk driver from her burning car early Saturday morning.
San Antonio police said Officer German Huerta was en route to a call on Loop 1604 near Judson Road when he was cut off and nearly hit by an erratic driver.
The vehicle's driver then swerved toward the median and struck the concrete barrier before rolling the vehicle several times, police said.
The vehicle then burst into flames as Huerta called for help and grabbed the fire extinguisher from his patrol car.
The flames, however, were too strong for the extinguisher. Police said Huerta busted out the passenger window and pulled the driver through the window to safety.
The driver, an 18-year-old woman, was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Police said she may be facing charges of DWI.
Huerta was treated for minor burns to his hands and arms at a local hospital. He also suffered several cuts and smoke inhalation.
San Antonio firefighters quickly doused the fire after they arrived to the scene of the crash.
