SAN ANTONIO -- A San Antonio police officer has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of deadly conduct.
Daniel Lopez, 42, has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation. He has been an officer for eleven years.
"The initial call was for a shooting the call was later updated with disturbance with a gun," said Chief Willima McManus.
It was Thursday night on the 100 block of Whitecliff. Lopez was allegedly holding his wife at gunpoint. Their two children were inside.
Police said Lopez held them at bay for about twenty five minutes.
"He was eventually arrested," said McManus.
He turned himself in peacefully. No one was injured. However, Lopez was already on administrative duty for an incident that happened in June.
"He fired a shot in the air, or in the ceiling at his home," said the chief.
Off camera, friends told me they didn't think Lopez was capable of doing anything like this. Chief McManus said Lopez was dealing with deeper issues but couldn't comment any further.
"Anytime there may be an issue we try to get the officer whatever help they may need," said the chief.
Lopez has now been placed on administrative leave. His bonds total $85,000.
