SAN ANTONIO -- An 18-wheeler containing a over two and a half tons of marijuana was pulled over Thursday morning, according to a law enforcement official.
An officer pulled the 18-wheeler over for a reported traffic violation at 4th Street and Broadway around 1 a.m. Thursday. AFter talking to the driver and the passenger, the officer determined their inconsistent stories warranted a search of the big rig.
Investigators said one person was detained and the truck was towed to San Antonio Produce Terminal market because the facility had adequate space needed to search the truck.
According to someone who handled the cargo, the marijuana was wrapped in produce, specifically poblano peppers.
The San Antonio Police Department confirmed that more than 5,000 bundles of marijuana were discovered inside the truck.
