SAN ANTONIO — A man who fired a shotgun while pulling it from his waistband then fled from police has been arrested following a three-hour manhunt.
San Antonio police found William Alvarado hiding in a vacant house in the 200 block of Rehman around 6 p.m. Friday, according to SAPD spokeswoman Sandy Gutierrez. The shotgun, however, was not immediately found.
Officers had been scouring the South Flores area with police K-9 units and by helicopter since 3 p.m.
Gutierrez said an officer had approached Alvarado and another man in the 200 block of West Fest. For some unknown reason, the suspect pulled a shotgun out of his pants.
Alvarado then ran toward South Flores Street, police said, while the other man ran away in another direction.
The officer chased Alvarado to a cluster of vacant buildings in the 1800 block of South Flores, where the suspect allegedly pointed his gun at the officer before darting into the building.
Police said the officer responded by firing at the suspect.
After-school activities at Harris Academy and Briscoe Elementary School were placed on lockdown. The lockdown was lifted around 4:45 p.m.
Police had originally said Alvarado was armed with an AR-15 assault rifle.
