SAN ANTONIO -- A 19-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after his girlfriend's baby was taken to the hospital with a head injury.
Julian Garza is facing a charge of injury to a child.
According to his arrest warrant, he voluntarily spoke to San Antonio police and confessed to hurting the baby on accident.
He told investigators he was home alone with the 8-month-old and was trying to get some sleep but the child kept playing on top of him.
Garza told police he got angry and threw his arms, causing the baby to hit his head on a window sill.
"Kids are precious," said a concerned neighbor, James Hernandez. "They shouldn't be hurt."
He was appalled at the news of his little nieghbor suffering a head injury. "An adult person versus a kid," he said. "Its not right for anyone to hit anyone the way I see it."
According to the arrest affidavit, Garza claimed he knew the baby was injured but did not get him treatment because he feared he would get in trouble.
Doctors described the baby's injury as a "massive skull fracture from a high impact injury."
Garza was booked into the Bexar County Jail on a $30,000 bond.
Unfortunately, in Bexar County child abuse cases continue to spike at an alarming rate. In fact, the county leads the state in confirmed child abuse numbers.
KENS 5 talked to advocates at ChildSafe. They say in 2012, a total of 19 children died in Bexar County. They also say last year 6.205 children were confirmed victims of child abuse in Bexar.
