SAN ANTONIO -- Officers were looking for a man dressed in a gorilla suit after a patron at a north-side nightclub darted into traffic early Friday morning.

A man leaving the Hooter's restaurant off US 281 north and Bitters told police he saw the victim run into traffic just after midnight.

The witness also said the victim was being followed by a man in a gorilla suit.

According to a police report, 32-year-old Paul Nimnicht was hit by a white Infiniti and was taken to University Hospital, where he was last reported in stable condition.

The driver of the Infiniti told police he didn't see Nimnicht until he ran into the side of his vehicle.

Officers then went searching for the man in the gorilla suit and found him at the nearby CoCo Bongo nightclub.

According to the report, witnesses at the nightclub told police that the victim had said he wanted to kill himself shortly before running out into the middle of the highway.

The driver of the Infiniti, who police identified as 32-year-old Nathan Girton, was uninjured and tested negative for alcohol.
